Apr. 7th, 2008 09:15 pmThe FCC is currently (but not for long) taking comments on the future of low power FM (LPFM) radio stations. In fact, I think today (April 7th) might be the last day. If you think this is important, drop some words on them here:

Here's what I said:
Hopefully they get enough comments in to keep small local FM radio stations alive!

I support the Commission's actions to help low power stations threatened with encroachment. LPFM radio is about localism; it is about the voice of the people of the community being heard by their local peers. It is vital that radio as a medium of communication have the same significance as other community media outlets such as local cable television stations and community newspapers.
Those who have invested time, effort, equipment and money into the creation of LPFM stations within their communities should not be pushed aside by national broadcasters and translators of distant stations. LPFMs should have the same protection of broadcast rights as a full power FM station. A full power station should not be allowed to displace an LPFM without suitable displacement options being offered. Full power stations and translators should have to get in the same queue to find suitable bandwidth that an LPFM would.
Hopefully they get enough comments in to keep small local FM radio stations alive!
