Sep. 10th, 2008 03:33 amI'm finally playing Portal for the first time. Lots of fun.
Some industrious folks have taken the Transgaming wrapper from the Spore demo and started stuffing other games into it. Essentially turns PC games into OS X games. I think it is actually a general-purpose way to run Windows-native applications, especially games, on OS X. Whatever the details, it works, and works well. I can now play GTA3:SA and the Orange Box games (Half Life 2 and Portal) on my Mac without booting to Windows or using a virtual machine app. The framerate and quality of HL2 is rather impressive considering that it is a Windows binary running realtime through Cider.
The game companies are total fools for not doing this officially and selling the games to willing customers. Oh, and so much for SecuROM.
